"These photographs were taken by Roméo L'Heureux, a member of Dignity/San Francisco, during the early and mid 1980s. They show a variety of social and religious events celebrated by the Dignity/San Francisco community. L'Heureux arranged the photographs and assigned individual numbers to them, using small adhesive labels with the numbers typed on each label. The sheets of photographs were circulated at Dignity events, and members were able to order copies using the identification numbers ... The order created by Roméo L'Heureux has been preserved, and no rearranging has been done. At the beginning of each album is a key created by William Benemann, identifying some of the events and people shown in the photographs"--Accompanying collector's description

The Dignity group began in San Diego and Los Angeles between 1969 and 1970. By 1972-1973, a Dignity/Bay Area chapter was in formation. The growth of the membership made it necessary to localize the group's pastoral care. In 1983, Dignity/Bay Area became Dignity/San Francisco. East Bay and South Bay chapters subsequently developed, fostered by Dignity/Bay Area members. Dignity chapters of the Greater Bay Area are currently members of Dignity/USA, Inc.
